# Import a bank statement

*Bring in statement lines from any bank by uploading the file your bank provides.*

AXO reads the statement files banks export, so it works with every bank without needing a direct connection.

| Format | Notes |
|---|---|
| MT940 | The SWIFT standard, offered by most corporate banking portals |
| CAMT.053 | The ISO 20022 standard used by many international banks |
| OFX | Common in online banking downloads |
| CSV | Match the columns once and AXO remembers the layout |
| Excel | Works the same way as CSV |

1. Download a statement from your online banking.
2. In **Banking**, choose **Import statement** and pick the account.
3. Upload the file and check the preview.
4. Confirm. The lines appear in the reconciliation inbox with suggested matches.

> **Note:** Importing a statement doesn't post anything to your ledger. Statement lines are the bank's side of the story; you match them to your books when you reconcile.

A damaged file is refused with the line numbers that couldn't be read, and nothing from it is imported. Importing the same statement twice doesn't create duplicate lines.
