# Record a customer payment

*Record money received and allocate it to one or more invoices.*

1. Open the invoice and choose **Actions**, then **Record payment**.
2. Enter the amount, the date, and the bank or cash account it arrived in.
3. Allocate it to one or more invoices. AXO suggests the oldest open invoices first.
4. Save. The invoice moves to Partially paid or Paid, and the payment posts to the ledger.

**Overpayments**

If a customer pays more than they owe, the extra stays on their account as a credit. Apply it to a future invoice or refund it.

**Early-payment discounts**

If you offer a discount for paying early, AXO applies it when the payment is allocated within the discount window and posts the discount to its own account.

> **Note:** Payments that arrive through Stripe, PayPal or another connected provider appear in Banking for matching, so you don't record them by hand. See [Reconcile your bank](https://docs.tryaxo.com/reconcile.md).
